My ancestor is John Swift Born 22 Nov 1801 in Livingston County KY. Birthdate & place is from Johns Swift's own statement from Gratiot Street Prison in St. Louis , MO where he was being held during the civil war for being a "Southern Sympathizer". (Missouri Provost Mashall papers) .
John states he was born in Livingston Co KY 22 Nov 1801.
John's father was John Swift Sr who married Hannah McElwrath. John Swift Sr was born about (1777? Based on if he was 21 at date of marriage to Hannah McElwrath 1798) and it is not known by me where he was born at this time. The first record I have on John Sr is his marriage to Hannah McElrath on 19 Oct 1798 Christian Co KY.
The Next record is a Tax list 1801 Livingston Co KY (Where our John Jr states he was born).
Next record is 1801 Livingston Co KY John Swift appointed Surveyor of Road.
The next record is John Swift is a motion made be John Swift : 13 Oct 1806 Christian Co KY On motion of John Swift, Administrator...entered into bond with Henry M. Wood and BENJAMIN CRABTREE his securities, $2000, Letters of Administration granted him...on estate of Thomas Swift . I have the inventory of Thomas Swift Estate , also other probate . Buyers from Thomas Swift's Estate are John Swift, William Husband, James Crabtree, Wm Pyle, Thomas Wood, Thomas Vaughn , Thomas Dupee?, Josiah Crabtree, & Henry Pyle. The Estate of Thomas Swift made Settlement with James Crabtree Sr Nov 4 1806 Christian Co KY. In this probate John Swift states he went to NC on business involved with the Estate. What I find interesting about that is Thomas Swift who married Martha (Possibly Linden or London according to others online) died in 1806 in Randolph Co NC or that's where his will is anyway. Which leads me back to the question WHO IS THIS THOMAS SWIFT SR that John is admin of? John named his son Thomas Flowers Swift so its likely this is John's father or brother. Also I match the DNA of Elias Bedsaul's line and Flowers Swift married Mary Bedsaul daughter of Elias Swift. I am certain my John Swift is of this line. I just cant prove who his father was. Flowers Swift was a son of Thomas Swift who married Martha (possibly Lindon or London) . If the online information is correct that Flowers son John married Catherine Bird then that is NOT our John Swift. At this point we need to know who this Thomas Swift was who died abt 1806 in Christian Co KY. If we can figure that out then we will know for sure who our John Swift was in relation to him. Our John Swift Sr was said to have died 14 Oct 1836 in Calloway Co KY. This date comes from others online so I am not sure of its accuracy but its all I have right now and cant find probate. If you are related to this line and have anything to contribute please do . We need all the help we can get in establishing John's parents. In 1830 Christian Co KY John Swift is aged 60 to 69 so his birthdate could be before 1777.
